May 24, 2011 - Week 25

I can’t believe there is only a little more than 100 days left until we meet Miss Abigail (Abby). 104 days to be exact (if she was to be born on her due date). Abby should weigh about a pound and a half or a little more and from head to heel, she probably measures about 13 ½ inches. Baby fat is finally starting to develop to help smooth out the wrinkled skin and make her look more and more like a newborn. Her hair (if she is growing any) is growing more and more and if we could see it we could determine the color and texture now.
I haven’t always been the most graceful person and it seems like I am becoming less graceful, which I read is normal when you are pregnant. I have dropped numerous things such as our laptop (ouch), mouse, bags, etc. I have tripped numerous times too over my own feet practically! I am so clumsy normally that it is just crazy how easy it is for me to drop something or trip. I am being very cautious these days to try and avoid any major accidents. Wish me luck!

I am feeling Abby move more and more. I will feel her for a few minutes and then it stops for awhile while she is sleeping. It is pretty cool. No one has been able to feel her yet because when Bryan or anyone puts their hand on my belly she immediately stops. She is one stubborn little girl!!

Do I even need to mention heartburn? I am always full of air and indigestion and heartburn is killer throughout the day and at night. It is very painful at times and burns but I’m dealing with it…I take Tums but sometimes don’t think they really work; however, I am getting additional calcium from them! Last night (night of May 24th) I’ve got very little sleep because I was up every 30 minutes to an hour and a half with the WORSE heartburn/indigestion/pain of my life. I’m hoping taking Mylanta or Zantac will help – even though I can only take it on occasions! I’m exhausted today!! Poor Bryan kept asking me if I was okay and I wasn’t dying so I had to say yes but was so uncomfortable and my chest/throat was burning so bad. I’m hoping for not too many of these nights in the future!

I am a week behind on my six month check-up appointment with Dr. Smith but had it on Wednesday, May 25th. Everything is looking good. Abby’s heartbeat was around 148, which is normal. They gave me the nasty orange drink to get cold so I can take the gestational diabetes test next week at the lab. I’m hoping the drink isn’t as bad as everyone says but I am sure it will be awful! I have gained weight; plenty of weight so far!! Need I say more? I almost fainted when I read the scale! They didn’t say anything but I know gaining 20 pounds at 25 ½ weeks is a little much. Hopefully, I will get some energy soon so I can start exercising a bit. Dang sweets that I never wanted before – please stay away from me. Why do I crave you now?

Big and plump but I hope Bryan still sees me as his beautiful wife. :) Here are the 25 week photos:

Your Unbelievably Great Great-Grandpa, Papa!

Dear Abby,
This little letter is not even going to begin to explain how extraordinary and awesome my grandpa and your great-grandpa, Papa, was.  I envisioned y’all being able to meet each other and spending time together each week building a relationship and bond like I had with him.  It breaks my heart knowing you will never get to meet Papa and I will try my very best for you to know just how special and one-of-a-kind he was.  I hope that you can learn how great your great-grandpa was—this is my goal and I pray that you learn through me and others just how lucky we are to have Papa in our family.
I shared Papa with many others because we have a large, but awesome family.  However, I feel like Papa and I had a special bond and great relationship.  I looked forward to seeing Granny and Papa each week (usually a few times a week).  Spending time with Papa really was a highlight of my week, each and every week.  I loved him so much and learned so many things from him.  When I was young we use to disagree over everything: if he said black I would say blue just to not agree with him.  As I got older, Papa could do no wrong in my eyes.  I really do think Papa was perfect—he really was! I loved listening to his stories about the old days, his opinions on politics, his weekly sports summary, his hunting stories (even though this is one thing we didn’t agree on—hunting), and honestly I was interested in anything and everything he had to say.  He had strong opinions which I liked because he really knew what he wanted and liked.  He knew who he was and believed strongly in what he thought was right.  He was my role model.  Papa was just great—I really do strive to be as good as a person as he was.
In grade school I would spend some time in the afternoons at Granny and Papa’s.  I would go grocery shopping with them and Granny and I would put our snacks and food in the basket to buy.  Papa would go behind us taking the name brand pizzas and whatever else out of the basket and opting for the off-brand instead.  We laughed about this many times later but he really did teach me a valuable lesson on cost savings.
When I didn’t like what Mom and Dad were fixing for dinner I would just call Granny and Papa and tell them I really wanted 7-11 nachos.  At the time I didn’t like pig, deer, or fish, which my parents ate a lot of so in my memory they were bring me 7-11 nachos or Dairy Queen all the time.  This is truly great grandparents!!  They spoiled me rotten!
I loved meeting Papa on Saturday and Sunday mornings at the country store.  I would always interrupt the ‘man’ table where all the men were drinking their coffee and I would get/order my breakfast taco.  I’d love listening to them talk about cattle, rain, weather, hunting stories, and crazy things that they admitted to doing each week.  On occasions I also liked to surprise Papa at his pasture in the morning and ride around with him looking at his cows, feeding his cows, and looking at what the hogs had destroyed now.  I was always amazed with his garden too.  One year (2010) we had a competition: produce out of our garden compared to produce out of his garden.  His garden always did so much better—his green onions got huge, his potatoes grew big, his squash looked healthy.  Don’t get me wrong, our garden did well but his produce always seemed to be bigger!  Bryan always picked on Papa saying he was cheating in some form or fashion because his crop looked so good and healthy!!
Papa was such a lucky person too!  He always won things.  Your mommy and daddy do not have any luck so maybe you will be lucky like your great-grandpa.  Papa always won at raffles.  He was always bringing home something that didn’t cost him a dime such as a television.  He won contest, such as deer contest.  He was a winner in everything he did.  I went to the High Grove annual picnic with Granny and Papa a few times and when I was there he never won (because I bring bad luck).  However, the years I didn’t go with them were the years they won things!  I stopped going so they could win the cool prizes!!  J
Papa always made us laugh because he and Granny would go to Louisianan for two or three nights and the total trip would cost them like $4 or $5 dollars.  I use to not believe them so a few times they brought the receipts home for me to look at.  They went gambling quite often so got free rooms, free buffets, free everything really.  They would stop and eat off the $1 menu or get senior coffee and discounts along the way.  They made it into a game to see how little money they could spend on a trip to Louisiana to go gambling.  I was always amazed!
Papa always let people hunt at the pasture and kill one deer a year.  However, I am not the hunter and am quite opposite.  I am an animal lover.  He would always joke about me going out and hunting my deer and I would say, “I want no one to be able to kill a deer for one year out at the pasture.  I want to save all the deer.”  He would just laugh and tell me I am just like his brother, Jerry.  We can’t kill a fly.
I did inherit the same money sickness syndrome as Papa.  When Papa made big purchases and paid for them in cash he would make himself sick for a couple of days.  When I have to buy something unexpected or pricey, I get sick myself for a while because the thought of spending lots of money makes me sick just like it did Papa!!  I like to save my money and I think Papa did too!
I loved the fact that Papa and your daddy built a strong relationship too.  They both would set each other straight and not let each other get too crazy of ideas.  Over the years there relationship grew and grew and they developed a really special relationship too.  Papa and your daddy both were hard workers, country men who loved to talk about cow, cattle prices, hay, and fertilizer cost.  They both really liked to work—hard labor, dirty work!  They also watched the same television shows on the History Channel and others ‘man’ channels.  Their favorite show to discuss was always Dirty Jobs.  I miss Papa terribly and I know Bryan does too because Papa was like a grandpa to Bryan also!
Granny and Papa had an unbelievably strong marriage.  It is a marriage anyone would be jealous of because it was so solid.  They each loved each other with all of their hearts and were the love of each other’s lives.  Granny did everything for Papa and Papa would do anything for Granny.  Their marriage was so sweet and loving and truly a marriage so strong that you rarely do see a bond so strong anymore.  Being around Granny and Papa really makes you see what true love is and how it can be ever-lasting.  Granny and Papa were a perfect match—their marriage and love for each other was so, so strong and unbelievable!
Papa was such a giving, kind-hearted man who I miss beyond any words can describe.  I really thought he was invincible and I would get to share my life with him forever.  He was such a fighter and determined I never imagined myself having to live life without having my grandpa to share it with.   I love Papa so much and know he is watching over Granny and all of us in everything we do.  I’m so glad Papa is my grandpa and your great-grandpa because I couldn’t of asked for a better grandpa.  He was so active in my life growing up and I am so glad I got to share so many memories with him.  I just hope he knows how much I loved him and just how great I thought he was.  Papa is seriously one of the best people I have ever met in my life.  In Heaven, I know he will still be a part of my life and keep track of what is going and somehow set me straight when I need to be.  Papa will see you grow up and watch over you too from Heaven!
Papa knew you were coming into this world soon.  I kept him updated on all the doctor appointments, sonograms, and he got to watch my stomach grow and grow!  He even helped with names because Bryan and I didn’t agree on lots of name choices at first.  I had the name “Addison” on my list of names I liked and one day we were running through the list I had.  He had an Aunt Addy that he mentioned and then he said something about liking the name Abby.  Abby started to grow and grow on me and just kind of stuck for us.  So Papa helped come up with your name – Abby.  Papa suggested in conversation that he liked the name Abby and Daddy and I liked it too.  We actually love your name and think it is so cool that your great-grandpa played a role in naming you without even probably realizing it.
Papa was so special and created such an awesome family, which you are a part of.  He will never be forgotten and I have so many memories that I hope to pass along to you.  I’m so grateful for the time I got to spend with Papa and all the memories we made.   I have so much love for Papa and will never forget him.  He was the absolute best!!  This little letter doesn’t even begin to describe all my memories with Papa and no words can describe Papa because he was so very special.  He truly was.  However, I wanted to write a letter to help describe to you how awesome your great-grandpa, Papa, was.  He played a role in who we all our today and my heart is completely filled with love for Papa!

May 17, 2011 - Week 24

This is the six month mark!  Our Baby Girl should weigh approximately 1.50 pounds.  She is becoming quite the big girl!  Our Baby’s beautiful face should be almost fully formed even though it is still tiny and doesn’t have much fat.  I wonder if she is going to look like Bryan or me or a good mix of both of us?  No matter whom she looks like I know she is going to be one beautiful baby girl!  Baby girl should be gaining around six ounces each week, with much of the weight gain coming from fat, in addition to growing organs, bones, and muscles.

I have started getting some leg cramps at night.  I wake up in the middle of the night and my calves are cramping, which is an awful feeling.  So far I have been able to control the pain quickly by flexing and pointing so I hope this method continues to work so I don’t have to scream and wake Bryan up!
Heartburn is still around and loves me!!  It comes and goes throughout the day but it can’t seem to get enough of me because it is always around!!  I’ve had heartburn for about six months now and this is one thing I look forward to getting rid of!!  I even wake up in the middle of the night with painful indigestion!!
I haven’t been craving anything like I use to.  Once something got stuck in my head (Mexican food, cheesecake, orange juice, etc) I couldn’t stop thinking about it until I got some.  Recently, I haven’t been CRAZY like before.  Of course, I still always want me some good Mexican food but the strong cravings have gone away for now (by strong cravings I mean I have to have it right that second).  Bryan doesn’t think I’m quite as crazy as before but I’m sure he still thinks I’m a little crazy! J
The six months have gone by so fast it is absolutely unbelievable!  People have been telling me my baby bump is getting more and more round, what do you think?

May 10, 2011 - Week 23

Baby Girl is about the size of a small doll.  Baby’s weight in the next four weeks alone will double—Wow!  I haven’t been able to see her squirm underneath my clothes yet but this should be coming soon!  This milestone will be so cool and a little strange too!  I’m sure when I can start seeing her move it won’t be strange at all but the thought of it is a bit weird at the moment.  Baby Girl can hear everything that I hear but just at a different level since sounds are muffled by the muscles and tissues around my belly, the placenta, and the amniotic fluid.  Therefore, I really need to start watching my mouth a little bit more because I only want our princess to hear good, positive things!  Everyone else—watch your mouths too!

There haven’t been many changes for me this week.  I still get killer heartburn but should be use to it by now.  I feel our Baby move when I am relaxed and sitting still.  I can feel her move throughout the day now (not just early mornings and evenings) but it still isn’t constant movement.
We have completed the painting in the baby room!  Yippee!  I would say the room is about 95% decorated.  I have one large wall left to decorate but besides that the painting and decorations are complete!  I have to buy a few more things for the big wall but haven’t decided exactly what I want to do yet.  I have a couple of ideas boiling in my head and plenty of time so we shall see some finishing touches on the room decorations in the next few weeks.  I’m pretty impressed with the results so far and think it is so girly, girly—which was exactly the idea.  Thanks to my Mom who did the painting and helped with the creative ideas.  The room wouldn’t be anything like it is now without her help!  My Mom is just AWESOME!  Thanks to my friend, Lauri, who taped the tree for me because otherwise there would be no tree!  Thanks to my hubby for helping with some of the painting and hangings and for putting up with my moodiness!  Love to all!
We also got to go through the closet that was stuffed with all kinds of things I have bought and gotten to date.  We (Mom and I) clean and organized everything since the furniture got moved into the room.  Now everything can be put in its place from here on out so that will be so nice for my OCD!!  I still have lots of washing and other preparing to do.  I still have lots of stuff to do and get before our girl’s arrival but I am feeling better since stuff just isn’t piled in places!  We are off to a good start but the finish line is still a ways away!!

May 3, 2011 - Week 22

Our Baby Girl should be roughly one pound!!! Woohoo—a milestone! Baby Girl is also making more sense of the world as she develops the sense of touch starting this week. Baby Girl could also have some hair on her head but at this point since hair has no pigment it is bright white. My mom told me my great-grandmother, Mamaw, use to say that if you had heartburn then your baby was going to be born with a head of hair. Let’s see if this holds true because I have killer heartburn that just seems to be getting worse (at least this week).

My fingers have started to swell slightly, which is common. Therefore, I took our wedding bands to get inspected and re-polished with white gold. I figured this would be a great opportunity to do so and then when we get them back they will be like brand new!!

My stomach is growing…and starting on Wednesday, April 27, 2011 I started feeling our baby!! I wasn’t sure if that is what I was feeling but in the evenings and/or early mornings I have been feeling the same sensation (for the most part) when I am relaxed so I have concluded its Baby!! I’m so excited!! At this point it is not painful at all and just fills me full of love!!  I love feeling her move!

The baby room is started! I know I am early but when am I known to wait until the last minute? The decorations are started but not complete! We painted and put flowers on the wall (some paint, some stick on and some 3-D), a tree full of birds and butterflies, and started the pink picket fence. I am hoping to get the picket fence completed by the end of the week so then we can set the furniture up in the room. The bookcase and dresser are also in the process of getting fresh paint on them. By Sunday the goal is to have all the painting down low complete, the furniture that needs painted finished, and all the furniture moved into the room. Then I will have two large walls left to touch up the base paint and decorate but I am fine doing this little by little in the next few months!! I personally think it is turning out really cute and super girly!!

I had another sonogram on Thursday, May 5, 2011 with Dr. Darby. Bryan and my Mom got to come to the doctor’s appointment too so it made it extra special. Everything looked good. They re-examined all the baby’s body parts and looked at the heart again and as far as they can tell everything is right on track and normal. The baby is still a girl, which is GREAT because otherwise a little boy would have lots of pink to wear and a room that is working its way to being super girly! I was relieved when baby still had its ‘girly’ parts. Baby Girl weighed about 1 pound 3 ounces and her heartbeat was 150. Therefore, the doctor’s visit when great and everything seems to be good! I don’t have another sonogram scheduled but I bet I will have a least one more towards the end of the pregnancy to get Baby Girl’s weight and do a final checkup before delivery.

Another week almost down (the weeks pass so darn fast)!!  Pretty soon we will get to meet our Angel for the first time!
